University of Arizona School of Architecture

5-year program that culminates within the accredited Bachelor of Architecture degree comprises:

1) a basis (pre-architecture) year,
2) a 3-year professional core and
3) a fifth year concentrating on design options along with a senior capstone project.

Admittance to the Professional Phase (second through fifth years) from the program is selective and competitive. The 3-year professional core stresses five major areas: design/communication, history/theory, technologies, practice/management, and electives. Fifth year design options vary but typically include sustainable design, historic upkeep, community design, lightweight structures, design-build, and behavior aspects in design.

Through the professional program architectural research is balanced by general education needs in three regions of understanding: people and communities, traditions and cultures, and natural sciences. Additionally, both open and architectural electives are needed. Since the School includes a strong dedication to general education and breadth of study outdoors architecture, the curriculum enables for that quest for a small in another discipline.

Statement in the National Architectural Accrediting Board The Nation's Architectural Accrediting Board has asked for the following statement be incorporated in catalogs and marketing materials of fully accredited schools of architecture:

"Within the U . s . States, most condition registration boards need a degree from a certified professional degree program like a prerequisite for licensure. That National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), the sole agency approved to accredit U.S. professional degree programs in architecture, recognizes three kinds of levels: the Bachelor of Architecture, online resources Architecture, and also the Physician of Architecture. A course might be granted a 6-year, 3-year, or 2-year term of accreditation, with respect to the extent of their conformance with established educational standards... Masters Degree programs may contain a pre-professional undergraduate degree along with a professional graduate degree that, when gained sequentially, constitute a certified professional education. However, the pre-professional degree isn't, alone, acknowledged as a certified degree." 5-year professional program resulting in the Bachelor of Architecture degree in the College of Arizona is fully accredited through the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The College of Arizona doesn't provide a four-year pre-professional degree.
